Sitting at your desk for long periods of time can leave your body feeling stiff, tight, sore and tired. If you’re stranded at your desk, don’t stress, a couple of simple stretches can help improve/maintain flexibility, improve circulation and reduce.
Here are a few simple stretches you can do to help manage your aches and pains at your desk.
Neck Stretch
Sitting forwards in your chair
Gently tilt your head to one side
You can let gravity stretch for you or you can gently place your hand on the side of your head and apply gentle pressure
Hold for 10-15 seconds and repeat on the opposite side
Seated Bow and Arrow Stretch
Sitting forwards in your chair
Extend both arms out in front in front of you
Keep one arm out in front, gently draw the opposite arm back like you are pulling on a bow
As you draw your arm back, gently rotate through your mid back, enough so your feel a stretch
Return back to the start and repeat on the opposite side
Spinal Twist
Sit tall with both feet flat on the floor
Place your right hand on the back of your chair
Gently twist your torso to the right
Hold for 15–20 seconds and repeat on the other side
Seated Hamstring Stretch
Sit on the edge of your chair.
Extend one leg straight in front of you.
Keep your back straight and lean forward slightly.
Hold for 20 seconds before switching legs.
You don't need to dedicate a lot of time to staying active during the workday. Taking a few minutes every hour to stretch can help reduce discomfort, improve posture, and increase your overall well-being. Start with one or two of these stretches and gradually build them into your daily routine.
